The objectives of this course are to understand concepts and challenges regarding heritage (cultural heritage in particular) and its protection as a tourism resource, and to gain basic knowledge about problems around tourism development and heritage conservation.
The protection of heritage (such as World Heritage) has been promoted all over the world, while it is also utilized as one of the important tourism resources for cultural tourism and heritage tourism. What influences do tourism promotion and heritage protection have on each other? What kind of challenges are there to make a balance between the two and to achieve successful cultural tourism?
This class, through presentations and discussions based on literature readings, will explore challenges tourism promotion and heritage conservation face, and learn basic perspectives on how to resolve them.

観光資源の一つである遺産（主に文化遺産）とその保護について、その概念や課題に関する基本的な考え方を理解し、観光開発と遺産保護をめぐる問題に対する考え方の基礎的知識を身につける。

世界遺産をはじめとする遺産は、世界各地で保護が促進されると共に、文化観光やヘリテージ・ツーリズムの重要な観光資源の一つとして利用されている。それでは、観光促進と遺産保護は相互にどのような影響を与えているのだろうか。両者のバランスを保ち、文化観光を成功させるにはどのような課題があるのだろうか。
この授業では、文献講読を基にした発表とディスカッションを通じて、観光促進と遺産保護をめぐる課題と、その解決策模索のための基礎的な視点を学ぶ。
