The objective of this course is to reexamine the relationships and challenges between tourism promotion and heritage protection as a tourism resource. By exploring how to solve these challenges, it will help students to gain perspectives that will be useful in future when they decide to be involved in the practical field of tourism promotion and/or heritage management.
The protection of heritage (such as World Heritage) has been promoted all over the world, while it is also utilised as one of the important tourism resources for cultural tourism and heritage tourism, which are quite popular. Then, under what sorts of principles are tourism promotion and heritage protection and management operating, and what influences do they have on each other? What kind of challenges are there to make a balance between the two?
This class, through presentations and discussions based on literature readings, will explore and analyse the challenges tourism promotion and heritage protection and management face, and reexamine the perspectives on how to resolve them.

観光促進と観光資源の一つである遺産の保護をめぐる課題、そしてその課題解決の方策について再検討し、将来実務の現場で、観光開発もしくは遺産保護に携わる際に役立つ視点を身につける。
The objective of this course is to reexamine the relationships and challenges between tourism promotion and heritage protection as a tourism resource. By exploring how to solve these challenges, it will help students to gain perspectives that will be useful in future when they decide to be involved in the practical field of tourism promotion and/or heritage management.
世界遺産をはじめとする遺産は、世界各地で保護が促進されると共に、重要な観光資源の一つとして利用されている。また、文化観光やヘリテージ・ツーリズムも盛んである。それでは、観光促進と遺産保護・管理はそれぞれどのような目的と原則の下にあり、相互にどのような影響を与えているのだろうか。両者のバランスを保つにはどのような課題があるのだろうか。
この授業では、文献講読を基にしたプレゼンテーションとディスカッションを通じて、観光促進と遺産保護・管理をめぐる課題を分析し、その解決のための視点の再検討を行う。
