The objectives of this course are to deepen the understandings about challenges regarding heritage (cultural heritage in particular) and its protection as a tourism resource, and its relationship with society, and to acquire the ability to look at these issues from multiple perspectives.
The protection of heritage (such as World Heritage) has been promoted all over the world, while it is also utilized as one of the important tourism resources for cultural tourism and heritage tourism. What influences do tourism promotion and heritage protection have on each other? What are the roles and challenges of heritage conservation in society?
This class, through presentations and discussions based on literature readings, will reexamine the history of heritage protection and its evolution, and deepen understandings about meanings and challenges of heritage conservation.

観光資源の一つである遺産（主に文化遺産）とその保護について、その課題と社会とのかかわり関して理解を深め、観光開発と遺産保護をめぐる問題に対する多角的な見方を身につける。

世界遺産をはじめとする遺産は、世界各地で保護が促進されると共に、文化観光やヘリテージ・ツーリズムの重要な観光資源の一つとして利用されている。それでは、観光促進と遺産保護は相互にどのような影響を与えているのだろうか。社会における遺産保護にはどのような役割と課題があるのだろうか。
この授業では、文献講読を基にした発表とディスカッションを通じて、遺産保護の歴史を振り返りつつ、遺産保護の意味と保護をめぐる課題についての理解を深める。
