This course aims to discuss place and space from various perspectives and with help of different theories and case studies, and to develop a better understanding of basic knowledge that is necessary to critically read and think about tourism space.
Place and space assume a crucial place in our understanding of tourism phenomena and behaviors. More than simply a physical location, they are constructed with the effects of various factors from economic, cultural, social to political. Therefore, the formation, production, consumption and use of tourism space cannot be easily deciphered without an interdisciplinary understanding of its nature. This course will introduce theories and key arguments related to place and space, and, through literature, case studies and/or fieldwork, if possible and necessary, think and discuss about issues concerning tourism space.

英語文献の閲読に加えて、学生の語学力に合わせながら英語での議論、作文なども期待されているため、英語の読解力や積極的に英語を使う意欲が求められる。
このコースは、様々な視点、理論および事例から場所・空間の形成や利用等をめぐる課題を議論し、観光空間に関する問題を理解、分析するための基本的知識を学ぶ。

観光現象や行為を理解するために、場所と空間の重要性が指摘されている。単なる物理的なロケーションではなく、場所と空間は経済、文化、社会、政治など様々な要素の中に構築されたものであり、そのため、人文地理学をはじめ、多くの分野の視点から、観光空間の形成、生産または消費、利用を理解する必要がある。このコースでは、場所・空間に関する理論と議論を紹介し、文献調査や事例分析、また必要であればフィールドワークなどを通じて、観光空間をめぐる課題について考え、ディスカッションを行う。
Place and space assume a crucial place in our understanding of tourism phenomena and behaviors. More than simply a physical location, they are constructed with the effects of various factors from economic, cultural, social to political.
