The history of modern Japan from the end of the Tokugawa shogunate and the Restoration period to the Asia-Pacific War is viewed as the development of a Japan-style (emperor system) nation-state, and the flow of this process is confirmed. Specifically, from a socio-historical perspective, it is reviewed as a "struggle between nationalization and subjectization." Acquire the knowledge to understand the development and characteristics of Japan society using historical methods. However, rather than merely memorizing matters chronologically, students will acquire a historical way of thinking that enriches their understanding of the current situation through dialogue with history.
.In this lecture, we will follow the flow of a complex history by following various "establishment and development" processes such as the movement of the formation of a modern state for restoration reform from the end of the Tokugawa shogunate and the Restoration period, the movement from the promulgation of the Imperial Constitution to the establishment of the imperial constitution system from the ordinary road of constitutional government, and the formation of a colonial empire by foreign war. The image of modern Japanese history can be regarded as a tenno-based state(Emperor system nation) or a nation-state, but in this lecture, modern history is considered in the framework of "nationalization" and "subjectification". There may be changes in the content of the class plan depending on the flow of the class and the interest of the students.

板書を中心にした授業である。資料の配布や課題のやり取りはCanvas LMSを使用する予定である。歴史は暗記科目と思われているが、歴史を通して「正解のない問いを考える」姿勢を身に着けることを考えている。よって、積極的な発言も歓迎だが、授業を通して、真摯に内省する姿勢（自己内対話）もアクティブラーニングの一種と考えているので、こうした姿勢を養う気持ちをもって授業に臨んでほしい。
課題回答への講評をおこなう。
幕末・維新期からアジア・太平洋戦争に至るまでの日本近代の歴史を、日本型（天皇制）国民国家の展開として捉えて、その流れについて確認する。具体的には、社会史的な視座から「国民化と臣民化のせめぎあい」として概観する。歴史学的手法による日本社会の展開と特質を理解する知識を身につける。とはいえ、単なる事項の時系列的暗記ではなく、「歴史と対話をしながら現状認識を豊かにする」という歴史的思考方法を身につけるようにする。

本講義では、幕末・維新期から維新改革をめぐる近代国家形成の動き、帝国憲法発布から憲政の常道に至る帝国憲法体制の成立に至る動き、対外戦争による植民地帝国の形成など、様々な「成立と展開」の過程を追うことで、複合的な歴史の流れをおっていく。日本近代史像は天皇制国家または国民国家と捉えることが出来るが、本講義では近代史を「国民化」と「臣民化」のせめぎあいという枠組み、または、近代秩序の成立と展開に注目して考える（近代秩序の問題として、性規範（ジェンダー／セクシュアリティ）についても取り扱う）。授業の流れや学生の関心によって授業計画内容の変更もありうる。
