Through study of the historical development of events surrounding tourism, students will learn the basic knowledge and perspective required for study in the College of Tourism.
Within historical development of events surrounding tourism, this course examines cases in the West and in Japan. Periods of study are centered on characteristics of tourism in early modern, modern, and contemporary times. The course provides not only basic knowledge, but also basic analytical perspectives needed to understand tourism, including social factors behind its historical development, complexity, regional transversality, etc. In addition, the course covers the effectiveness of historical continuity, in order to understand better the current state of tourism.

観光学部での学修において必要な基礎知識やものの見方を、観光をめぐる事象の歴史的展開や関連する歴史学理論から学ぶ。
Through study of the historical development of events surrounding tourism, students will learn the basic knowledge and perspective required for study in the College of Tourism.
観光をめぐる事象の歴史的展開のなかでも、西洋および日本の事例を取り上げる。言及する時代は、観光の特性上、近世、近代、現代が中心となる。講義では単なる基礎知識だけでなく、歴史的展開の背景にある社会的要因や複合性・地域横断性といった、観光を理解する上での基本的な分析視角も身に付ける。あわせて、今日における観光のありようをよりよく理解するためには、歴史的連続性という見方もまた有効であることを学ぶ。以上の一連の内容を、いくつかの歴史学理論にもとづいて整理する。
