The purpose of this class is to understand the power and potential of tourism and cultural representation, focusing on how African and Black cultures are selected and represented in museums.
The museum, as an exhibition apparatus embedded within the Western modern system, has now become a destination for tourism. This course will analyse the authority and power of museums through the representation and display of Black culture, exploring its potential through contemporary debates in museology and monument studies, while presenting a vision for the creation of place for Black culture.

本授業の目標は、広義のミュージアムがとくにアフリカ人ないしは黒人の文化をどのように取り上げ、表象してきたのかを学ぶことで、観光や表象文化の権力性と潜在力の両面を理解し、第三者に説明できるようになることです。
The purpose of this class is to understand the power and potential of tourism and cultural representation, focusing on how African and Black cultures are selected and represented in museums.
西洋近代の統治の仕組みに組み込まれた展示の装置であるミュージアムは、現在は観光の主要な目的地となっている。本授業はミュージアムの権威と権力の系譜を、とくに黒人文化の表象と展示に注目して整理したうえで、近年のミュージアム研究やモニュメント研究の新たな議論を元にそれらの可能性を探求し、ブラック・カルチャーの場所の構築に向けた視座を提示する。
