The learning goals of this course are as follows:
1)Students will be able to rethink Western-centered views of nature and the environment, and understand the many different ways in which people and nature are connected in tourism.
2)Students will develop perspectives that help them think about current social issues related to nature and the environment in tourism in a critical and constructive way.
This course examines the relationship between nature and tourism from the perspective of cultural anthropology. While environmental problems such as tropical deforestation and climate change have become major global concerns, tourism is often seen as both a consumer and a protector of nature.
In this course, students will critically explore how tourism practices interact with local knowledge, environmental protection, and local cultures, using anthropological theories and concrete case studies. The course also focuses on contemporary issues related to nature and tourism, such as ecotourism, World Natural Heritage sites, and greenwashing. Through these topics, students will think from multiple perspectives about the ideals and realities of sustainability.

本授業の到達目標は下記の通りである。
１）西洋中心的な自然観や環境観を相対化させ、観光における人間と自然との多様なかかわり方について理解できるようになる。
２）観光をめぐる自然および環境に関する現代社会の諸課題について、批判的かつ建設的に捉えるための視座を養う。

本授業は、自然と観光との関わりを文化人類学の視点から検討する。熱帯雨林の消失や気候変動など環境問題が昨今グローバルな課題として耳目を集める一方、観光は自然の消費者とも保護者とも位置づけられている。本授業では観光をめぐる実践と在来知、環境保全、地域文化との交錯を人類学の理論や具体的な事例を用いて批判的に捉えてみたい。エコツーリズム、世界自然遺産、グリーンウォッシュなど自然と観光をめぐる現代的課題にも目を向けることで、持続可能性をめぐる理想と現実を多角的に考察していく。
