Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to understand the reality of the protection and utilization of cultural heritage, which is becoming increasingly important as a tourism objective, and to acquire the basic sociological knowledge needed to analyze it.
In general, cultural heritage such as works of art, archaeological sites, and traditional townscapes are considered to be objects that should be "properly" preserved and disclosed. However, why do we feel that some things have value and should be preserved? In this lecture, we will consider the following two points from a sociological perspective.
1) How, why, where, and by whom is the social system of "cultural heritage" itself established, and what complex processes are involved?
2 What are the characteristics of modern society that demand the preservation of all things?
The first half of the lecture will introduce sociological theories according to the questions of each session. The second half of the lecture will focus on themes and cases closely related to the phenomenon of tourism, and analyze the current state of cultural heritage tourism.

本講義では、観光目的として重要性を増している文化遺産の保護・活用の実態を理解するとともに、それを分析するための社会学的な基礎知識を身につけることを目標とする。

一般に、美術品や遺跡、伝統的な町並みなどの文化遺産は「正しく」保存され、「正しく」公開・活用されるべき対象として考えられている。しかし、そもそもなぜ、私たちは何らかの事物に価値があると感じ、それを保存すべきだと思うのだろうか。本講義では「文化遺産」という社会的仕組みそのものが、なぜ、どのように、どこで、誰の働きによって成立しているのか、そこにいかなる複雑なプロセスがあるのかを社会学的視点から理解し、あらゆる事物の保存を求める現代社会の特性を考察する。講義の前半は各回の問いにしたがい、社会学の理論を紹介する。後半には観光現象と関連の深いテーマ・事例を取り上げ、文化遺産観光の現在を分析する。
