The aim of this course is to learn about the function of the brain and nervous system, which is the biological basis of the mind, and deepen your understanding of various mental problems caused by brain disorders.
In our daily life, it is essential that various mental functions work appropriately in a complex manner, such as seeing and hearing, moving our bodies, feeling emotions, and exchanging words with others, etc. The biological basis of these mental functions is the brain and nervous system, and it has long been known that specific mental functions can be impaired when certain areas of the brain are damaged due to stroke or brain injury.
In this course, students will first learn the structures of the brain and nervous system, then the physiological mechanisms of various mental functions such as perception, language, emotion, attention and memory. Based on these knowledge, mental problems caused by brain disorders, such as higher brain dysfunction and psychiatric disorders, will be explained.

私達が日常生活を送るためには、ものを見たり聞いたり、身体を動かし、感情を覚え、他者と言葉を交わし、といったように様々なこころの機能が複雑にかつ正しく働いていることが不可欠です。こうした心的機能の生物学的基盤となっているのが脳・神経系で、脳出血や脳外傷によって脳の特定の部位にダメージを受けると、特定の心の機能が障害されることが古くから知られています。
この授業ではまず脳・神経系の構造を学習した後、知覚・言語・情動・注意・記憶など様々な心的機能の神経・生理学的機構を説明します。こうした知識をふまえて、高次脳機能障害や精神疾患など、脳の障害によって起こる心の問題について解説します。
