Promoting understanding of clinical research on brain damage and examples of experiments on normal brain in relation to interaction between brain and behavior.
This class explains how brain activity manifests itself in form of observable behavior. It explains the cases of brain damage from the point of view of clinical neuropsychology, practical research on normal brains from the point of view of experimental neuropsychology with illustrations and videos. First of all, it outlines the structure and functions of cranial nerve system, roles of all its parts. Then, it explains important topics about physiological response mechanisms, like memory and emotion, also topics of affection, learning and seep. Moreover, it introduces the concept of higher brain dysfunction, including developmental disorders that brain function specificity is implied and approaches to treating patients with mental disorders.

脳と行動との関係について、脳損傷等を扱った臨床研究や正常脳における実験例を通して理解を深める。

脳の活動が観察可能な行動としてどのようにあらわれているかを説明する。臨床神経心理の観点からは脳に病変のある症例を通して、実験神経心理の観点からは正常脳に対する実験的研究を基に、イラストや動画を用いて説明する。はじめに、脳神経系の構造及び機能について、脳・神経系の各部位の役割を概観する。次に、記憶、感情等の生理学的反応の機序について、情動・学習・睡眠といった重要なトピックをとりあげ説明する。次に、高次脳機能障害の概要について、脳機能の特異性が示唆されている発達障害や精神疾患について治療へのアプローチも含めて紹介する。
