1. To gain basic knowledge about the diversity of animal cognition, social structure, and living environment that have been shaped by evolutionary processes.
2. To understand that complex cognitive traits and social behaviors have evolved in many groups of animals.
This lecture will explore the diversity of animal cognition and ecology, and examine the evolutionary mechanisms that have shaped them. I will cover a wide range of topics such as the interaction between species, competition/cooperation, perception, emotion, learning, communication, and physical and social cognition in the animal kingdom. Students will gain a better understanding of how cognitive traits in animals have evolved and why animals behave the way they do in their habitat.

本講義では動物がみせる多様な認知特性と生態を紹介し、それらを形作ってきた進化メカニズムについて解説します。具体的には、動物界における種間の相互作用、競争・協調、知覚、感情、学習、コミュニケーション、物理的・社会的認知など、幅広いトピックを取り上げる予定です。受講者は、動物の認知特性がどのように進化してきたのか、なぜ動物は生息地でそのような行動をとるのか、という問題について理解を深めることができます。
This lecture will explore the diversity of animal cognition and ecology, and examine the evolutionary mechanisms that have shaped them. I will cover a wide range of topics such as the interaction between species, competition/cooperation, perception, emotion, learning, communication, and physical and social cognition in the animal kingdom.
