備考/ NotesNotes |
The ability to read and interpret academic papers in English is an essential skill for psychology students who plan to pursue graduate studies or careers in research. The Seminar on English Reading in Psychology (Level 1: Beginner) is designed to build confidence and competence in this area by focusing on practical techniques for reading and understanding English-language research papers.
Students will learn strategies to improve reading comprehension and gain a clear understanding of how to navigate the key sections of academic papers, such as the introduction, methods, results, and discussion. Through hands-on practice and guided analysis, the course offers a supportive environment to develop the skills needed to engage with psychological research effectively.
By the end of the seminar, students will have enhanced their ability to extract key information, assess the strengths and weaknesses of research, and gain familiarity with reading academic literature in English. This course serves as a foundation for students aiming to succeed in academic or professional fields in psychology.
This introductory course is designed to help students progressively build their skills in reading and understanding English-language academic papers. It is suitable for students with limited experience, as well as those with some proficiency who wish to further refine their abilities. The course takes a step-by-step approach, starting with shorter abstracts and simpler research articles before moving on to more complex papers as students gain confidence and comprehension skills.
Students will read assigned papers individually and then engage in group discussions to deepen their understanding and analysis. The instructor will guide students through challenging sections, clarify terminology, and demonstrate effective reading strategies. Over the semester, students will work with a total of 3-5 academic papers, gradually developing the skills needed to navigate psychological and general academic research with greater ease.
To support this process, students will complete targeted reading tasks and submit review sheets for selected articles, ensuring steady progress and fostering both independent learning and collaborative engagement.
