The skill of reading academic papers is essential for anyone aiming to enter graduate school or become a researcher.
The goal of the Seminar on English Reading in Psychology (Level 2) is to learn effective methods for reading papers, understanding their main points, and developing critical thinking skills.
During class, students of all levels will focus on improving their academic reading skills. Students will read academic papers from various fields in psychology and gain experience with recognizing common academic expressions and terminology. By the end of the course, students have developed their academic reading abilities and be familiar with a variety of article types.
The second level English Reading in Psychology is aimed at students who have already taken the first level class, those who can read literature by themselves (to some degree), and those who are motivated to improve their skills. During class, students will learn the meaning and functions of each of the sections of academic papers and work to better understand how to efficiently and effectively review academic papers. During discussions, they will talk about their overall assessment of articles or focus on specific aspects and gain experience with engaging in academic discussions of research. Students will review academic papers in English every week and discuss their contents in small groups. In total, students will read 4-5 academic papers of around 10-15 pages in one semester. Additionally, students will learn how to critically evaluate research, new methods of Open Science, and how to make targeted literature reviews.

There will be time given in class to read material but in the Level 2 class it is important that you engage in independent reading in preparation for each class.
授業に課題論文を読んだり、疑問点を話し合ったり、質問ができる週を設けますが、心理学英語文献講読演習2クラスでは授業外でも自主的に論文を読むことが求められます。

授業の具体的な進め方は、履修者の数やニーズに合わせて適宜調整していきます。
論文の読解能力は、心理学の分野で大学院進学や将来研究者を目指す人にとって必須のスキルです。そして、心理学のほとんどの文献および国際レベルの研究は英語で書かれています。
心理学英語文献講読演習2では、論文の骨子を効率良く理解する方法と批判的思考の習得を目標とします。
授業では、学生のレベルに関わらず、各々の読解力向上を図ります。また、心理学の様々な分野の論文を読むことで頻出する表現や専門用語を覚えます。

心理学英語文献講読演習2は、心理学英語文献講読演習1を履修した学生、ある程度自主的に英語文献を読める学生、学習意欲の高い学生を対象とします。授業では、論文を構成する各パラグラフ・文節の意味・機能を学び、論文の内容を大枠で理解する練習をします。クラス内ディスカッションでは、論文の特定箇所および全体像について話し合い、更には学術的な意見交換にも挑戦します。毎週英語論文を読み進めていき、その内容を少人数のグループで話し合います。学期内に10~15ページ程度の論文を4~5本読み終えるペースで授業を進めます。また、オープンサイエンス革命や学生が独自に文献レビューをするために必要な基本手法について説明します。
