【Course Objectives】

Building on the foundational skills developed in Level 1, the Seminar on English Reading in Psychology (Level 2) is designed for those who have already established a basic proficiency in reading academic papers and are looking to deepen their understanding and critical analysis in this area. This course is particularly beneficial for those aiming to enter graduate school or pursue a career in research.

The objective of Level 2 is to enhance methods for effective reading, comprehension of key concepts, and the development of critical thinking skills in the context of academic literature. Throughout the course, students will engage with a diverse range of academic papers across various psychology disciplines. This exposure will aid in recognizing and understanding common academic expressions and terminology prevalent in the field.

By the end of this course, students are expected to have not only improved their academic reading skills but also to have become familiar with different types of articles and advanced methods of analysis. This level provides a more in-depth exploration and understanding, preparing students for advanced academic challenges.

【Course Contents】

The English Reading in Psychology Level 2 course is designed for students who have completed Level 1, those who are already capable of reading academic literature to some extent, and those keen to further enhance their reading skills. In this course, students will deepen their understanding of the structure and functions of the different sections in academic papers and learn techniques for efficiently and effectively reviewing scholarly literature.

During discussions, students will engage in the comprehensive analysis of articles, focusing on both overall assessments and specific elements, thereby gaining experience in academic discourse and research evaluation. The course involves weekly reviews of English-language academic papers, with small group discussions to dissect and understand their content. Over the semester, each student will read 4-5 papers.

Additionally, the course will introduce students to critical evaluation of research, new methodologies in Open Science, and targeted literature review strategies. This level aims to build upon the foundational skills, equipping students with advanced capabilities for engaging with and analyzing psychological research literature.

Students will be required to complete reading practice tasks and submit review sheets for selected articles.
