備考/ NotesNotes |
1. The official language of psychological research is English, so becoming skilled at describing and expressing views on research in English is becoming more important even inside Japan.
2. The Seminar on English Expression in Psychology 2 (Intermediate-Advanced Level) helps develop essential skills for oral English presentations (including at meetings/conferences).
3. By the end of the semester, students should be able to give 20-minute oral presentations on their chosen psychological research topic and discuss research topics.
In this course, you will learn how to express and present effectively about psychological research in English. Students may use their thesis topic (you do not need to have collected the data yet) OR choose another research topic that you are interested in to present on. Throughout the course, each student will be required to give short presentations and engage in class discussions on target topics. As the course progresses further details are given on how to present various sections (e.g. introduction, methodology, results, discussion) and feedback will be provided on how to improve clarity and presentation style. The final part of the course, requires a 20-min final presentation on a topic of the student's choosing. Through feedback provided from other students and the lecturer the student will be able to develop the quality of their presentation skills. For the final presentation you will use PowerPoint and prepare a script for your review. Throughout the course the goal will be to enable you to express your views on research in plain, simple English that is understandable for the listener. It is therefore unnecessary for students to have high level English ability to benefit from the course.
