The objectives of this course are:
- To teach students the core principles of research in psychology
- To promote critical thinking about research
- To introduce students to academic and research vocabulary
- To increase students' ability and confidence to discuss psychology and academic topics
The course is designed for students at beginner to lower intermediate levels of English. Students will learn to recognise and use key terminology in psychology and academic research more broadly. The course is also intended to introduce students to the core principles of psychology research and experimental design. Each week there will be a topic of research introduced and this will be followed by group discussions and in some weeks short in-class exercises. Students will complete short reaction papers on selected subjects and produce a final presentation (approx. 10 mins) on a research topic of their choice. By the end of the course, students should have developed an understanding of basic research practices and be able to discuss them in English.
