The objectives of this course are:
- To introduce students to the basic principles and methods used in psychological research.
- To help students understand how research is designed and conducted in psychology.
- To develop students’ critical thinking skills by discussing the strengths and limitations of research studies.
- To build familiarity with key academic and research vocabulary used in psychology.
- To provide opportunities for students to practice discussing psychological research in English in a supportive environment.
This course is designed for students with beginner to lower-intermediate levels of English who want to learn the basics of psychological research. Students will develop the ability to recognize and use key terminology in psychology and academic research while being introduced to the fundamental principles of research methods and experimental design.
Each week, the course will cover a topic related to research methods, followed by class discussions and short in-class exercises to apply key concepts. Students will also submit short reaction papers on selected topics, providing an opportunity to reflect on and critically engage with the material.
The course concludes with a 10-15 minute final presentation, where students will apply what they have learned to a research topic of their choice.
By the end of the course, students will have a solid foundational understanding of psychological research methods. They will also gain confidence in discussing and evaluating these methods, including their strengths and weaknesses, in English.

このコースは、英語初級から中級レベルの学生を対象に、心理学研究の基礎を学ぶことを目的としています。学生は、心理学および学術研究における重要な用語を認識し使用するスキルを身につけるとともに、研究方法や実験設計の基本原則を学びます。
授業では毎週、研究方法に関連するトピックを取り上げた後、クラスディスカッションや短い授業内演習を通じて、重要な概念を適用する機会を提供します。また、選定されたトピックについて短い反応論文を提出することで、内容を振り返り、批判的に取り組む力を養います。
