The aim of this course is for students to learn the idea of media/medium and to develop methodologies for researching and analyzing their own topics. By reading texts on animation, film, and other visual cultures that discuss materiality, technological and industrial conditions, conventions, and reception, students will acquire academic reading skills and perspectives necessary for thinking with media studies ideas.
Students will read texts on animation, film, and other visual cultures written from media studies perspectives. All students will be required to summarize the texts in a given form before each reading session. Based on their summaries, students will participate in small-group and whole-class discussions. The goal is for all students to research their own topics and to make reports and presentations based on what they have learned in this course.

「メディア」や「メディウム」といった観点から対象を分析する方法を学ぶ。アニメーションや映画といった視覚文化を中心に取り上げ、対象を物質性や技術的、産業的な条件、慣習や受容といった観点から議論した文献を講読し、学術論文の読み方を身につけ、メディア論的に対象を検討する視点を獲得する。

アニメーションや映画といった視覚文化について、メディア論的な観点から書かれた文献を講読する。学生は事前に文献を読み、内容を指定された方法でまとめてくる必要がある。各自のまとめをもとにグループと全体での討議を行う。最終的には前半で学んだ内容を踏まえて、学生各自が自身の研究対象についての資料調査を行い、発表、報告をする。
Students will read texts on animation, film, and other visual cultures written from media studies perspectives. All students will be required to summarize the texts in a given form before each reading session. Based on their summaries, students will participate in small-group and whole-class discussions. The goal is for all students to research their own topics and to make reports and presentations based on what they have learned in this course.
