The aims of this course are for students to read and promote their understanding of representative ancient Chinese thought, especially considering how they should behave in East Asia.
In this course, students acquire knowledge of ancient Chinese thought and consider certain subjects, for example: "Do we have to keep rules?" "What kind of government is the best?" "Do we have to compete?" "Does more knowledge make us happier?”
At each meeting, one student in charge presents a report, and all the students exchange opinions. The person in charge carefully reads his/her part, does research if necessary, and explains the material to the other students.

紀元前の中国の代表的な思想家のことばを読み、理解を深める。とくに共通の文化の基盤をもつ日中韓の東アジアにおいて、どうふるまっていくべきかを考える。
The aims of this course are for students to read and promote their understanding of representative ancient Chinese thought, especially considering how they should behave in East Asia.
孔子・荘子・韓非子・墨子・孟子・荀子の思想について知識を得たうえで、「規則は必要か」「無為の政治は可能か」「真のリーダーシップとは」「競争は必要か」「知識は多ければいいのか」などのテーマについて各思想家の考えを比較しつつ考察する。授業は、教員の講義と担当者の報告と全員の意見交換によって進めてゆく。担当者は、古典文献の訳注や参考図書を使って思想家たちのことばの意味を調べ、授業時に報告する。
