The goal is to develop fundamental research skills (literature search, textual analysis, fieldwork, material analysis, presentation, discussion, and academic writing) through completing introductory research assignments on traditional Japanese performing arts.
1. Overview of research approaches: Students will gain a general understanding of the research history and methodologies of various disciplines that examine Japanese performing arts, including Japanese literature, performing arts history, art theory, ethnology, and ethnography. This class covers modern theater and contemporary dance alongside traditional theater, providing students with an opportunity to consider which approach they want to adopt for their future graduation thesis.
2. [Practice] Theatrical interpretation: Students will interpret a Noh theater work, analyzing verbal and physical expressions based on analytical frameworks provided in class. This exercise will give students the opportunity to experience how new interpretations of artworks can emerge through systematic analysis.
3. [Practice] Literature research and fieldwork: Each student will search newspapers and magazines for articles about local festivals and conduct interviews to examine the transmission of performance traditions. This will provide students with the opportunity to experience the satisfaction of discovery through collecting and analyzing research materials.
4. Presentations: Students will deliver oral presentations on the two research activities mentioned above. They will receive prior instruction on presentation techniques and report writing.

毎回の授業にPCを持参してください。
日本の伝統芸能に関する初歩的な研究課題の実践を通じて、研究スキル（文献探索、テキスト読解、フィールドワーク、資料分析、発表、討議、論文作成等）の基礎を身につけることを目標とします。
The goal is to develop fundamental research skills (literature search, textual analysis, fieldwork, material analysis, presentation, discussion, and academic writing) through completing introductory research assignments on traditional Japanese performing arts.
（１）日本の演劇、舞踊、その他の芸能を扱う諸学問（国文学、演劇学、舞踊学、芸能史、思想史、美学、パフォーマンス・スタディーズ、民俗学、人類学、文化経済学、文理融合研究など）の研究史と研究手法を概観します。この際には伝統芸能だけではなく、現代の舞台芸術も視野に入れます。自分が将来の卒業論文でどのようなスタイルの研究をするのかを考える契機としてください。
（２）【作品解釈実践】能の作品を一つ取り上げます。作品分析の視点を教えるので、それをふまえて自分で言語表現や身体表現を分析します。分析から作品の新たな解釈が生まれる面白さを体験しましょう。
（３）【文献調査・フィールドワーク実践】各自が住んでいる地域のお祭を対象に、新聞記事や雑誌記事の探索と、聞き取り調査の両方を通じて、パフォーマンスの変化を検証します。調査による発見の喜びを体験しましょう。
（４）上記2種類の研究のそれぞれについて、短い口頭発表と、レポート作成をおこないます。発表の仕方、レポートの書き方は、事前に指導します。
