The course will offer perspectives and methods for critically analyzing image culture (for example, film, television, and music video) and considering it in terms of body and image. In particular, the course will attempt to provide the foundations for writing a thesis based on a coherent analytical perspective and research, and for critically reading previous research, producing clear academic writing, and productively discussing a single theme.
After the introduction, in which the instructor will present basic analytical methodologies, the course will involve classes in reading basic literature on image analysis and presentations on personal areas of interest from each student. The content of analysis will mainly be films (recommended as the theme of presentation as well), but students may present on the themes of other media, including television and music video.

映像文化（映画・テレビ・ミュージックヴィデオなど）に関して、批判的に分析できる手法と視野を手に入れ、それを映像身体論の視点から論じることができるような能力を養うことを目標とする。具体的には、一貫した分析的視点と論証をともなった、論文執筆へといたる能力の獲得を目指し、先行研究を批判的に読み解く読解力、一貫した主張を明晰に展開する文章作成力、あるテーマについて生産的に議論するディスカッション力を鍛える。

ゼミ教員が作品分析の手法を講義形式で紹介したのち（イントロダクション）、映像分析に関する基本文献を読解し（文献講読）、受講学生が各自で選んだ映像作品の分析の発表へと進む（学生による発表）。映像分析の対象として、まずは基本となる映画を大きく扱うが（発表などでも映画をテーマとすることを推奨する）、学生による発表はその応用として、テレビやミュージックヴィデオなど他のメディアを主題としたものも認める。
