Students will learn views of chi (氣) that were held in ancient China.
We will read articles written by Hidemi Ishida, learn views of chi that were held in ancient China, and compare with the way we view our bodies and the world today. Each class will consists of either a lecture or a student report followed by an exchange of opinions by the whole class. Students making reports will carefully read their assigned texts, conduct research as required, and deliver an oral explanation in class.

古代中国人が「気」の観念でとらえた身体と世界を理解し、現代の社会における問題点を見極め、どのような生き方が理想的であるか、古典文献の中にヒントを模索する。
Students will learn views of chi (氣) that were held in ancient China.
現代の東洋哲学者・石田秀実の著作『気のコスモロジー』を中心に読み進めながら、古代の中国人が「気」の観念でとらえた身体・世界と、今日の我々が認識している身体・世界とを比較する。
授業はいずれも教員の講義と担当者の報告と全員の意見交換によって進めてゆく。担当者は、古典文献の訳注や授業中に紹介する現代の身体に関わる文献を参考にして、自分で選んだテーマもしくは与えられた課題について調べ、授業時に報告する。
