Learn about the characteristics of Chinese constellations, as well as the myths and legends associated with them, in order to understand the worldview shared across East Asia.
Traditional Chinese constellations form a completely different system from the modern constellations of Greek origin. The origin of the Tanabata legend also lies in China. In this course, we will explore the worldview of the people of East Asia through myths about constellations, images of the cosmos, and practices such as divination. Classes will be conducted mainly through reports by the instructor and discussions involving all participants.

Learn about the characteristics of Chinese constellations, as well as the myths and legends associated with them, in order to understand the worldview shared across East Asia.
中国の伝統的な星座は、ギリシア由来の現在の星座とは全く異なる体系である。七夕伝承の起源も中国にある。本授業では、星座に関する神話や宇宙のイメージ、占いなどを通して、東アジアの人々の世界観を探る。授業はおもに担当者の報告と全員の意見交換によって進めてゆく。
