Students will improve their ability to study various artistic and cultural practices, with performance as a key concept, and will learn to synthesize their findings in essays or oral presentations.
This class explores a variety of artistic and cultural practices centered on “performance,” including performing arts such as theater and dance, folk and traditional performances, as well as sports and strategic or skillful behaviors in everyday life.
The class has two main activities. 1) A collaborative task involving the whole class. Students report the results of activities such as reading literature, watching theater plays, or interviewing people involved in performance. 2) Students present the results of their research and observations on a selected example of performance, based on their own preferences, and discuss them with the class.
L2 sets the main points for fieldwork study.

〈パフォーマンス〉ということをキー・コンセプトとして、諸々の芸術や文化の実践を研究し、独自の論考を口頭発表と論文のかたちにまとめあげることができるようになる。
Students will improve their ability to study various artistic and cultural practices, with performance as a key concept, and will learn to synthesize their findings in essays or oral presentations.
この授業では、演劇やダンスなどの舞台芸術から民俗芸能や伝統芸能、あるいはスポーツや日常生活の中での意識的・技巧的な振る舞いなど、〈パフォーマンス〉をその核にする様々な芸術や文化実践を対象とします。
授業は、二つの取り組みを軸にします。（1）クラス全員で共通して取り組む課題。文献を読む、舞台を鑑賞する、上演芸術の現場を取材するといった取り組みの成果を発表してもらいます。（2）受講者自身の関心に応じて設定した〈パフォーマンス〉の事例について、独自に調査、考察した成果を発表してもらい、クラスで討議します。
L2では、フィールドワーク研究に重点を置きます。
