Students examine various cultural events in the context of the key phrase “audiovisual media” and aim to be able to verbalize the nature of such events. Through reading literature, class participants acquire critical perspectives to think about topics from various points of view. This seminar is held to develop students’ themes and research plans for their graduation papers.
This class mainly deals with film as audiovisual media, but as necessary it also focuses on various videos, auditory culture, and narrative expressions not limited to film in a narrow sense. The teacher first selects texts considering the interests and wishes of students. Students then make presentations and raise issues based on the text, and develop their understanding of the topic through discussion. In the second half of the seminar, students analyze specific works or audiovisual culture according to their chosen themes, and present the results.

「視聴覚メディア」をキーワードに、さまざまな文化的事象を思考し、そのありようを言語化できるようになることを目指す。また、文献講読をとおして、多様な角度から対象をとらえるための批評眼を養う。なお、受講者それぞれが卒業論文につながるテーマおよび研究計画を立てられるように演習を進める。

本演習が扱う対象の中心に、視聴覚メディアとしての映画をひとまず置くが、必要に応じて狭義の映画にとどまらない各種動画、聴覚文化、ないし物語表現等も視野にいれる。
まずは、受講者の関心・希望を考慮しつつ教員が文献を提示する。そのうえで、受講者各自が当文献に基づいたプレゼンテーション・問題提起を行ない、全体でのディスカッションをとおして当該トピックに対する理解を深める。演習後半では、各人がテーマを設定して実際の作品ないし視聴覚文化に関する分析を行ない、その成果を発表する。
