This course has two objectives:
1. To acquire ways of thinking and methodologies for analytically and quantitatively approaching aesthetic issues.
2. To gain a deeper understanding of art by learning how to view art from an objective standpoint.
Both the creation and appreciation of artworks are based on complex human cognitive processes. Therefore, in order to gain a deeper understanding of art, a psychological approach may also be necessary. The academic field that conducts psychological research into art is called "Empirical Aesthetics." Empirical aesthetics has a long history, having emerged almost at the same time as the scientific field of psychology. There are still many research issues to be addressed, but in recent years, there has been lively discussion due to growing interest in this topic. In this lecture, we will consider the historical development of this research field, focusing in particular on the psychological process of "appreciation" and the resulting "evaluation" in the psychological research into art.
In the second half of the lecture, we will discuss the role of "color" in artistic expression.

美的な問題に対して分析的・定量的にとらえる考え方と方法論を学ぶ。
客観的な視点からアートを捉える視点を学ぶことを通じて，アートへのより深い理解を目指す。
This course has two objectives:
1. To acquire ways of thinking and methodologies for analytically and quantitatively approaching aesthetic issues.

美術作品の創造・鑑賞は，ともに人間の複雑な認知過程に基づいて行われる。そのため，アートについてのより深い理解を目指すためには，心理学的なアプローチも必要であろう。美術に対する心理学的研究を行う学問領域を「経験美学（Empirical Aesthetics）」という。経験美学の歴史は古く，心理学という科学的学問領域が誕生したのとほぼ時を同じく誕生した。まだ多くの研究課題が残されているが，近年では関心の高まりから活発な議論がなされている。本講では，美術に関する心理学的研究のなかでも特に「鑑賞」ないしはそれから生じる「評価」の心理過程に焦点を当てながら，この研究領域の歴史的展開を考察する。
講義の後半では，表現における「色」の役割について扱う。
