Students do a cross-section analysis of art, sports, animation and movies from the point of view of cultural research, cultural anthropology, and contemporary thought, in order to learn the various methods for exploring the state of body and self in modern times.
Our bodies and selves are inseparable from the society and are shaped by various "devices" existing in it. Furthermore, the context of modern surveillance society focuses even more on the body itself, and new media technologies are increasingly being merged with the body. This class reads and understands this new context of the body by referring to preceding discussions and several types of media art.

Students do a cross-section analysis of art, sports, animation and movies from the point of view of cultural research, cultural anthropology, and contemporary thought, in order to learn the various methods for exploring the state of body and self in modern times.
私たちの身体や自己は社会と遊離しているのではなく､社会におけるさまざまな ｢装置｣ によって形づくられている｡さらに､ 現代における監視社会の文脈においては､身体それ自体が新たに注目され､ 新しいメディアテクノロジーはますます身体との融合を果たそうとしている｡本講義では既存の議論といくつかのメディア芸術を参照しながら､ こうした身体をめぐる新しい文脈を読み解いていく。
