The anthropology of music is a subfield of cultural anthropology that explores regional cultures worldwide from multifaceted perspectives, focusing specifically on activities related to music. In this introductory course, students will explore diverse musical practices through theoretical lenses and re-examine their own assumptions regarding music and daily life.
This course provides introductory lectures on the anthropology of music. While primarily lecture-based, the course follows an interactive format―utilizing tools such as online polling―and requires active participation. Some sessions will also include group work, discussions, and practical activities, including live performances. Students are expected to engage thoughtfully with the reaction papers submitted at the end of each session. The instructor will select key questions and insightful comments from these papers to provide collective feedback at the start of the following week’s lecture.

基本的に「音楽」に関わる能力は必要としない。ただし、各回のテーマに関連する演奏スキルをもつ方には、上演やワークショップ指導をお願いすることがある。
音楽人類学とは、世界中の地域文化を多角的に迫ってきた文化人類学の下位学問分野として、とくに音楽に関わる人びとの営みを論じる学問である。本授業は、そうした音楽人類学の入門講義として、多様な音楽のあり方を理論的な視座をもって学び、自身の音楽や生活の当たり前を問い直すことを目標とする。

授業では、各回のテーマに沿って音楽人類学の入門的講義を行う。講義が中心ではあるものの、オンライン投票ツール等を用いた双方向型で進行するため、受講生には積極的な参加が求められるほか、一部の授業では、グループワークやディスカッション、演奏などの実技を含む。また毎回提出されるリアクションペーパーを重視し、重要なコメントや寄せられた質問等をピックアップして、翌週の授業時にフィードバックを行う予定である。
