The objective of this course is to cultivate an understanding of the core concepts of phenomenology while exploring the breadth and depth of the concept of "the Other." Students will develop the skills necessary to critically analyze and construct well-founded arguments on this topic.
The concept of "the Other" is not only a central issue in contemporary philosophy but is also deeply intertwined with notions of "image" and "body." This course will focus on key French philosophers from the latter half of the 20th century—Jean-Paul Sartre, Maurice Merleau-Ponty, and Emmanuel Lévinas. Through the study of their seminal concepts, we will explore the problem of "the Other" from diverse perspectives, employing phenomenological methods to examine concrete experiences.

「他者」は、現代哲学の最も重要な問題のひとつであるだけでなく、「映像」や「身体」にも密接に関わっている。しかし、その「他者」とはいったい何か。20世紀後半フランスの哲学者ジャン＝ポール・サルトル、モーリス・メルロ＝ポンティ、エマニュエル・レヴィナスを中心に取り上げ、彼らの代表的な概念を学びながら、現象学的手法を用いて具体的経験についても検証することで、「他者」の問題を多角的に考える。
