The goal of this course is not limited to understanding democracy as a political system. Rather, it aims to cultivate students’ ability to think independently about how each of them can participate in democracy as citizens and voters, and to translate such reflection into concrete action.
Specifically, by the end of the course, students are expected to achieve the following learning outcomes:
(1) Students will be able to explain the basic concepts of democracy—such as sovereignty, representation, participation, freedom, and equality—from the perspective of citizens and voters.
(2) Students will be able to understand various forms of democratic participation, including elections, public opinion formation, social movements, and everyday expressions of opinion, using concrete examples.
(3) Students will be able to engage in dialogue with others who hold different views, organize key points of discussion, and attempt consensus-building.
(4) Students will be able to formulate questions about social issues in their everyday lives and logically articulate what they can do as participants in and contributors to democracy.
Although the term “democracy” is commonly used in everyday life, its meaning and underlying assumptions are not necessarily self-evident. This course examines democracy not only as an electoral system or a form of political regime, but also in relation to familiar settings such as universities and local communities. Through lectures, dialogue with guest speakers, audiovisual materials, and class discussions, students will develop the ability to understand democracy as an issue that directly concerns their own lives.
Ultimately, the course aims to deepen students' understanding of how, as individuals, future voters, and members of society, they can engage with society and lead their lives in a proactive and responsible manner.

配布資料や授業で紹介した文献を読み、わからない言葉や関連する情報を自分で調べ、自分なりの問題意識をもって授業に出席することを期待する。自発的に学ぶ姿勢や主体的に学びの機会を活用する参加姿勢を求める。
日本だけでなく、海外の社会問題や取り組みに興味・関心を持っていることが望ましい。授業では時事的な問題にも言及するので、日常的にニュースや新聞に目を通す習慣を身につけることを推奨する。
資料配布、課題の提出はCanvas LMSを通じて行うため、PCが必要となる。
ゲストスピーカーをお招きした回では、受講生から積極的に質問することを期待する。なお、ゲストスピーカーのご都合により、登壇の順番を入れ替える場合がある。
本授業の目標は、民主主義を「政治制度として理解する」ことにとどまらず、受講生一人ひとりが市民・有権者として民主主義にどのように参画できるのかを主体的に考え、自らの行動につなげる力を養うことにある。
具体的には、下記を到達目標とする。
①民主主義の基本概念（主権、代表、参加、自由、平等など）を、市民・有権者の視点から説明できる。
②選挙、世論形成、社会運動、日常的な意思表明など、民主主義への多様な参画の方法を具体例とともに理解できる。
③異なる意見を持つ他者と対話し、論点を整理しながら合意形成を試みることができる。
④身近な社会課題について自ら問いを立て、民主主義の担い手として自分に何ができるのかを論理的に表現できる。

「民主主義」という言葉は日常的に使われているが、その意味や前提は必ずしも自明ではない。本授業では、民主主義を「選挙制度」や「政治体制」に限定せず、大学や地域社会、家庭やアルバイト先など、身近な場面との関係から考える。講義やゲストスピーカーとの対話、映像資料、ディスカッションを通じて、民主主義を自分の問題として捉える力を養う。
最終的には、一人の学生として、有権者として、市民として、今後どのように「社会」と関わりながら、主体的に自分の人生を営むことができるのかについて理解を深める。
Although the term “democracy” is commonly used in everyday life, its meaning and underlying assumptions are not necessarily self-evident. This course examines democracy not only as an electoral system or a form of political regime, but also in relation to familiar settings such as universities and local communities. Through lectures, dialogue with guest speakers, audiovisual materials, and class discussions, students will develop the ability to understand democracy as an issue that directly concerns their own lives.
