Why do we want to be part of a “Community”? What is the history of this? What is “Community Peace”? What are the issues around this? Without taking our community for granted, we consider the significance and topics of community from a fresh perspective.
What is the condition or state that is implied by the word “peace” as used in everyday language? If there is no war or conflict, does that mean that peace exists? Why do we want peace in a community? Why do we need a community anyway? From these point s of view, we first consider “community peace” through examination of changes in the view of the community in Japan. Second, we consider the current situation and issues of the community with specific examples related to globalization, security, exclusion, discrimination and so on.

空き時間を埋めるためではなく，興味を持って履修する受講者を求める。写真や図，身近な具体例を扱いながら初学者にもわかりやすい授業となるよう努めるが，授業態度には厳しくする。私語や睡眠などは厳禁の授業なので（平常点に反映される場合がある），そのことを自覚（理解して賛同）したうえで履修すること。なお，授業の順番や内容を多少変更する可能性がある。
なぜ，「コミュニティ」が求められるのか。そこには，いかなる歴史があるのか。「コミュニティ平和」とは何で，どのような問題があるのか。コミュニティを絶対的に良いもの・必要なものと自明視せずに，「コミュニティの意義と課題」を改めて考える。

日常語でもある「平和」という言葉で，どのような状態を思い浮かべるだろうか。戦争がなければ平和なのか。なぜ，「コミュニティ」における「平和」なのか。どうして，そもそも我々は「コミュニティ」を求めるのか。このような関心から，第一に，日本におけるコミュニティ観の変遷を概観することを通じて，「コミュニティ平和」を多角的に考えていく。第二に，グローバル化，安全，安心，排除，差別といったことに関連する具体例をとりあげ，コミュニティの現状と課題について考える。
