1. Through studying history, students will develop the ability to visualize and sympathize with people's hardships and difficulties, and understand how they are trying to solve them.
2. In terms of the social welfare issues facing Japan today, students will learn the background to their development, and how they have been addressed, and acquire the ability to explain these from both the point of view of the principles of thought and the system.
It is important to have knowledge of the historical background and ideology that formed the framework of the current social welfare system and practice.
In this class, we will review the historical background and philosophy of social welfare from the Meiji, Taisho, and early Showa periods (until the end of World War II) and from 1945 to the present, using video materials and primary sources.
Classes are basically lecture-style, but students may be asked to give their opinions and engage in discussion.

Power Pointを使用した講義形式を基本とするが，映像資料や一次資料なども適宜活用する．
受講者に意見を求め議論を交わすこともある．
②課題に対するフィードバックについて
リアクションペーパーは，次回授業開始時にフィードバックを行う．
1．歴史を学ぶことによって，人々の抱えてきた苦難や困難を想像・感受する力を養い，それらの苦難や困難に対して，どのように解決しようとしてきたのかを理解することができる．
2．現在の日本が直面している社会福祉の課題について，それが歴史的にどのように形成され，いかに取り組まれてきたのかという点に対して，思想と制度の両面から説明することができる．

現在の日本の社会福祉制度や実践の枠組みが，いかなる歴史的経緯や思想のもとで形成されたかについて知識をもつことは重要である．
本授業では明治・大正・昭和初期（第二次大戦終了まで）から今日に至る社会福祉の歴史的経緯と思想について，映像資料や一次資料も用いてその展開を確認する.
授業は基本的に講義形式をとるが，受講者に意見を求め議論を交わすこともある．
