This course provides an overview of Japan's contemporary history since the Asia-Pacific War from the perspectives of political and diplomatic history and social history. While grasping the framework of Japan's contemporary history, we will deepen our understanding of Japan's contemporary history while also taking into account the characteristics of contemporary East Asian history.
As in Japanese history 1, try to find a historical way of thinking that "enriches awareness of the current situation while interacting with history," rather than simply memorizing matters in chronological order.
lIn this lecture, regarding the modern history of Japan during the Empire of Japan, we will confirm the collapse process of the empire, that is, the expansion policy to mainland China, the cooperative relationship with the great powers, the entry into the Asia-Pacific War, and the trends in the 1930s to the 1940s and the development of postwar society. The society after the war that the present age history deals with is thought as a problem of the inheritance of the all-out war system. Moreover, the present age history is thought by the frame of " Compelling self-sacrifice" and "Respect for individual human rights". In addition, the problem of the war ruins and the war outlook is treated in the class. The content of the class plan may be changed depending on the flow of the class and the interest of the students.

板書を中心にした授業である。資料の配布や課題のやり取りはCanvas LMSを使用する予定である。歴史は暗記科目と思われているが，歴史を通して「正解のない問いを考える」姿勢を身に着けることを考えている。よって，積極的な発言も歓迎だが，授業を通して，真摯に内省する姿勢（自己内対話）もアクティブラーニングの一種と考えているので，こうした姿勢を養う気持ちをもって授業に臨んでほしい。
課題回答への講評をおこなう。
アジア・太平洋戦争以降の日本現代史につき，政治外交史の視座と社会史の視座を通して概観する。日本現代史の枠組みを押さえつつ、東アジア現代史の特徴も加味しながら、日本現代史の理解を深めていく。
日本史1と同じく，単なる事項の時系列的暗記ではなく，「歴史と対話をしながら現状認識を豊かにする」という歴史的思考方法を身につけるようにする。

本講義では，大日本帝国時代の日本の近現代史について，帝国の崩壊過程，すなわち，中国大陸への膨張政策を契機に列強との協調関係を崩壊させ，アジア太平洋戦争へと突入し，敗戦に至る1930年代から40年代の動向及び戦後社会の展開を確認していく。現代史を総力戦体制の遺産の問題として考える。また，現代史を「滅私奉公」と「個人の人権の尊重」のせめぎあいという枠組みで考えてみる。その他，授業では戦争遺跡や戦争観の問題も扱う。授業の流れや学生の関心によって授業計画の内容の変更もありうる。
lIn this lecture, regarding the modern history of Japan during the Empire of Japan, we will confirm the collapse process of the empire, that is, the expansion policy to mainland China, the cooperative relationship with the great powers, the entry into the Asia-Pacific War, and the trends in the 1930s to the 1940s and the development of postwar society.
