This course aims to enable students to understand the basic framework of the welfare state from a comparative political economy perspective and to explain differences among national welfare systems. In particular, using welfare regime theory as an analytical framework, students will examine changes in the relationships among the market, the welfare state, and the family in post-industrial societies.
In addition, students will be able to critically reflect, in their own words, on the institutional design of contemporary welfare states, including the role of the third sector.
This course introduces the basic concepts of the welfare state and differences among national welfare systems. Using welfare regime theory as a key analytical framework, the course compares welfare systems in European countries and Japan, and examines the role of the welfare state in contemporary society.
In addition, the course explores changes in family structures, employment, and care in post-industrial societies, as well as the role of the third sector.

本講義は、福祉国家論の事前知識を前提としない。
福祉国家の基本的な枠組みを比較政治経済学の視点から理解し、各国の制度の違いを説明できるようになることを目標とする。とくに、福祉レジーム論を手がかりに、ポスト工業社会における市場・福祉国家・家族の関係の変化を理解する。
あわせて、第3セクターの役割を含む現代福祉国家の制度設計について、自らの言葉で考察できるようになる。
