This is an elective required course that is positioned at the core of education in the Department of Community Development. Based on each faculty member's research theme, students will read specialized literature, conduct fieldwork, and practice in the field in small classes. The objective of this course is to examine the sustainability of the relationships between nature, society, and the self, identify existing challenges, and develop strategies for their resolution. Furthermore, by focusing on "energy" and "food (agriculture)," students will study sustainability and its applications to local communities.
Focusing on "energy" and "food (agriculture)," both essential to human life, this course explores sustainability and its applications to local communities. Specifically, students will engage in a community energy project led by an NPO in Ogawamachi, Saitama, to examine the feasibility of local energy self-sufficiency. They will also study advanced case studies in this field. Furthermore, students will participate in farm work alongside local farmers supporting organic agriculture and take part in the reclamation of abandoned farmland through an environmental conservation NPO, gaining firsthand insight into the realities and challenges of sustainable agriculture.
To deepen their engagement in these activities, students will employ the dialogue-based practice of "meta-facilitation."

コミュニティ政策学科での教育の中心に位置づけられる選択必修科目である。各教員の研究テーマに即して、少人数クラスで専門文献の講読や現地調査、現場実習などを行う。
本クラスの目標は、自然、社会、自分自身との関係が持続可能であるか否かに注目し、現状の課題を明らかにし、課題解決のための方策を構想することである。そして「エネルギー」と「食（農業）」に焦点を当て、持続可能性とその地域への応用を学ぶ。

私たちの生活に欠かせない「エネルギー」と「食（農業）」に焦点を当て、持続可能性とその地域への応用を学ぶ。具体的には、埼玉県小川町をフィールドに、NPOが推進する地域エネルギー事業に参加し、地域自給の可能性を探る。また、先進的な事例も学ぶ。さらに、小川町での有機農業の実践を支える農家の方々と共に農作業体験や環境保全NPOによる耕作放棄地開墾に参加し、持続可能な農業の実態や課題に触れる。
これらの地域での活動を深めるために「メタファシリテーション」の対話実践を用いる。
