By the end of this course, students will be able to:
•Explain topics in social welfare and community policy from a global perspective
•Discuss social welfare and community policy topics in English
•Evaluate the reliability and relevance of academic sources
•Write a structured academic paper in English, including an introduction, body paragraphs, references, and conclusion
•Revise academic writing based on peer, TA, and instructor feedback
•Submit a polished paper suitable for publication in Manabiai
This seminar-style course examines global issues in social welfare and community policy through academic reading, discussion, and writing. Classes are conducted primarily in English and focus on the step-by-step development of an academic paper. Students learn to structure ideas, analyze causes and effects, evaluate existing solutions, and propose new approaches. The course includes peer review, TA review, and instructor feedback, leading to possible publication in Manabiai for papers that reach a minimum standard.
