The goals of this course are to
(1) Deepen interest in and understanding of various sociological theories.
(2) Foster sensitivity to social problems and become able to consider familiar social problems sociologically.
"Social problem" is a name that covers a wide range of problems, and it can be said that all the subjects of sociology are social problems. There are social issues surrounding communities such as families, schools, businesses, and local communities, and there are also minority issues that arise in a society centered on the majority. In order to clarify these social problems, theories such as functionalism, symbolic interactionism, constructivism and intersectionality, as well as quantitative and qualitative research methods, have been accumulated.
This course, based on theories and methods of sociology, explains the process of constructing various problems in modern society for each theme and people’s actions surrounding these problems. Through these, this course aims to cultivate the abilities necessary to consider familiar social issues sociologically.

(2) 社会問題に対する感受性を養い、身近な社会問題を社会学的に考察できるようになる。

「社会問題」とは幅広い問題群を包括した名称であり、社会学の対象はすべて社会問題だともいえる。家族・学校・企業・地域社会などのコミュニティを取り巻く社会問題もあれば、マジョリティを中心とする社会で生じるマイノリティの問題もある。これらの社会問題を解明するため、機能主義、シンボリック相互作用論、構築主義、インターセクショナリティなどの理論と、量的調査・質的調査の方法が蓄積されてきた。
本授業では社会学の理論と方法をふまえたうえで、テーマごとに現代社会における様々な問題群が構築される過程と、その問題を取り巻く人々の行為を解説していく。これらを通して、身近な社会問題を社会学的に考察するために必要な能力を養うことを目指す。
