The goals of this course are to
(1) Deepen understanding and interest in the area around the Niiza Campus through dialogue with various guest speakers in Niiza.
(2) Learn the basic methods and tools to research regions and local communities.
(3) Cultivate the independence and research ability by conducting a survey on the area of interest and making presentations and discussions with students.
Regionology is the study of how a region is formed in the connection between time and space (Yamashita 2020). Based on the following two characteristics, this course aims to give mutual intellectual stimulation to teachers and students by approaching regional studies from various angles.
(1) Invitation to regional studies through dialogue with guest speakers: To learn about Niiza, where the Niiza Campus is located, from various angles, historical researcher familiar with Niiza and Musashino, staffs of Niiza City Hall, representatives of local community organizations, NPOs, etc., who are involved in community development. Dialogues will be held between the guest speakers and faculty members and students.
(2) Attempt of regional studies by students: In parallel with (1), ask the students to research on a common theme, explore local issues and resources, and suggest a solution, with the advice of the teachers. Finally, a presentation will be held between the students and teachers.

| グループごとに新座市内での簡単なフィールドワーク（観察調査）とライブラリーワーク（文献調査）を行なってもらう。 |
・各回のテーマとゲストの方について、事前に文献やインターネットなどで情報を集めておくこと。
・2～3回、担当教員も交えて受講生同士の発表会を行うため、授業と並行して、グループでの共同研究を進めてもらう。授業内でも作業時間をとるが、グループワークに積極的に貢献しなければ単位修得は難しい。
・事前学習、復習、グループワークを含めて、平均して毎回2時間程度の授業時間外学習を要する。

課題の作成にはPCを必要とする。
授業では、皆さんからゲストスピーカーの方々への積極的な質問を期待します。なお、ゲストスピーカーのご都合により、登壇順を入れ替える可能性があります。
グループでの共同研究を行ってもらいますので、毎回の授業にしっかりとコミットする意志のある方を歓迎します。
(1) 新座に関わる多様なゲストスピーカーとの対話を通して、新座キャンパス周辺地域への理解・関心を深めること。
(2) 地域を調査する基本的な方法・ツールを習得すること。
(3) 新座について調査を行い、相互に発表・議論を行うことで、それぞれの主体性や調査力を養うこと。

地域学とは、時間と空間のつながりの中で地域がどのように成り立っているかを調べる学びである（山下 2020）。本授業では以下2点の特色のもと、地域学に多角的にアプローチして、教員・受講生が相互に知的刺激を与えあうことを目指す。
(1) ゲストスピーカーとの対話を通した地域学への招待：
新座キャンパスの位置する新座市について多角的に学ぶため、新座・武蔵野に詳しい歴史研究者、新座市役所の職員、地域づくりに取り組む地縁団体やNPO代表等の代表を招請する。ゲストスピーカーと教員・受講生とで対話を行う。
(2) 受講生による地域学の試み：
(1)と並行して、担当教員の助言のもと、共通テーマに関して受講生が調査を行い、地域の課題や資源を探索し、問題解決策を提案する。最終的に、担当教員も交えて受講生同士の発表会を行う。
