The critical examination of socially constructed notions of “masculinity” and “femininity” has offered important insights into questions of human dignity and equality in modern and contemporary societies. This course aims to explore how the human body—our closest and most intimate sphere—has been shaped by gender norms and expectations.
While the body is an intensely personal entity, it is also inherently social. In this course, we will examine—with the students—what it means to live in a body situated between individual experience and social expectations. Each week, we will address different themes related to the body and develop the ability to analyze them through a gender perspective, using examples from newspaper articles, current news, and other contemporary cases. The class will consist of instructor-led explanations, case-based learning, and group discussions. Through expressing one’s own views and engaging with the perspectives of others, students will deepen their understanding of the themes in an interactive learning environment.

授業では毎回グループディスカッションの時間を設ける。
グループディスカッションでは、1名の学生がファシリテーター役を担うことになり、受講生全員が数回担当を予定している。
〈男らしさ〉や〈女らしさ〉という社会的な性差を問うジェンダーの視点は、近現代社会において人間の尊厳や平等とは何かを検討するうえで重要な示唆を与えてきた。本講義では、私たちにもっとも近しいものである身体がどのようなジェンダーの影響を受けてきたのかを検討していくことを目的とする。

身体は極めて個人的なものである一方、社会的なものでもある。個人と社会の狭間で、身体をいきるということがどのような経験であるのかを、受講生とともに検討していく。本講義では、毎回、身体にかかわる様々なテーマを検討し、新聞記事やニュースなどの事例を用いながら、ジェンダーの視点から考察する力を身に付ける。授業では、教員による授業内容の解説に加え、毎回の事例学習とグループディスカッションを実施する。グループディスカッションでは自らの意見を表現することに加え、他者の意見からも学ぶことで、相互行為のなかでテーマへの理解を深めていく。
