・Acquire fundamental knowledge of theories related to the analysis of international relations and foreign policy.
・Understand the historical context that characterizes contemporary Japanese diplomacy and its challenges.
・Develop the literacy necessary to actively think about international peace and relations when participating in international exchange as a citizen or engaging in political participations such as voting in elections.
This course focuses on the topic of international peace and diplomacy, putting emphasis on the following three perspectives: "theory," "history," and "challenge," and using modern and contemporary Japanese diplomacy as a case study. Although current events may be touched upon when relevant, the primary focus will not be their explanation. Instead, the aim is to learn about the frameworks for understanding contemporary foreign policy and the international environment surrounding Japan. Special attention will be given to perspectives from other countries and regions on Japan's position in international relations, particularly within the context of East Asia,.
Diplomacy today is not solely conducted by governments; individual citizens also have channels (such as through elections) to participate in policymaking or to evaluate it. Additionally, there may be opportunities for individuals to interact with people from other countries within their communities or to collaborate with them in each work, potentially allowing each person to act as a "citizen diplomat." By using the theories, history, and challenges related to Japan's diplomacy as case studies, the goal of this course is to encourage students to actively think about ways to achieve international peace.

高等学校で学習する水準の世界史や日本史の知識（特に19世紀以降）があると望ましい。
毎回の授業前に、授業支援システム「Canvas LMS」に講義資料をアップロードする。各自、ノートPCやタブレットなどにあらかじめダウンロードするか、紙にプリントアウトした上で授業に参加すること（授業の際に教員から紙で配布することはしない）。
授業後に寄せられた質問については、その次の授業の冒頭で回答・解説を行う。積極的な質問を歓迎する。
・国際関係や対外政策を分析する際の理論に関する基本的知識を習得する。
・今日の日本外交やその課題を特徴づける歴史的な文脈について理解する。
・一市民として国際交流に参画したり、選挙投票などの政治参加をしたりする際に、国際平和や国際関係について自ら主体的に考えるためのリテラシーを習得する。

国際平和と外交という主題について、「理論」「歴史」「課題」という3つの視角から、近現代日本における外交を事例として講義を行う。その時々に応じて時事的話題に触れることはあるものの、その解説を主眼とはせず、今日の対外政策や日本を取り巻く国際環境を理解する際の「枠組み」について学ぶ。また、特に東アジアを念頭に、他国・地域から見た日本（東アジア国際関係における日本）という視角に留意する。
今日の「外交」は決して政府のみが行うものではなく、一市民も（選挙などを通して）その方針策定に参画する（または評価する）チャネルが開かれている。また今日、各々のコミュニティにおいて海外の方と接する機会や、仕事で海外の方と協働する機会も少なくなく、各個人が一「市民外交官」となり得る場合もあるだろう。日本外交をめぐる理論・歴史・課題を事例として、国際平和を実現するための方法について各自が主体的に思考する契機としたい。
