The objective of this course is to learn about the history and key concepts of global mobility, develop one's own perspectives on issues concerning emigration and immigration, and refine one's ideas through discussions while providing constructive comments on others' opinions.
In this course, students will learn about global mobility and its related theories and concepts by exploring the history and experiences of Japanese Americans. In particular, we will study the history of Hawaiʻi, which has a diverse range of ethnic groups including Japanese Americans, and examine the formation of immigrant communities and approaches to issues that arise in multicultural societies. We will discuss various forms of mobilities, not limited to immigration, and consider multiple levels, including individuals, communities, society, nation-states, and international relations.

国際移動やそれに関連する理論と概念について、日系アメリカ人の歴史と経験を手掛かりに学びます。とりわけ、日系人を含む多様なエスニック・グループを擁するハワイの歴史を学びながら、移民社会の形成、多文化社会で生じる諸問題へのアプローチを検討します。移民に限らず多様な移動の形態を、個人、コミュニティ、社会、国家、国際関係など、複数のレベルからとらえます。
