The objectives of this course are as follows:
To understand what environmental sociology is and how it has developed as an academic field.
To examine how the characteristics of environmental problems have changed over time.
To consider the social meaning of experiencing health damage caused by environmental problems.
In this course, students will learn what environmental problems are and how they have changed over time through various case studies. The course also examines the characteristics of health damage caused by environmental problems and the difficulties involved in addressing and resolving such issues. In addition, students will consider the experiences of individuals who have suffered health damage as a result of environmental problems and explore how these experiences can be understood from the perspective of environmental sociology.

環境社会学への理解を深めるため、授業で紹介した事例について、映像資料や新聞記事などを調べるなど、1時間程度の予習・復習を行うことが望ましい。あわせて、環境社会学に関する概論書の読解を推奨する。

本授業の目標は、以下の3点である。
① 環境社会学が何を研究対象とする学問であり、どのように発展してきたのかを理解する。
② 環境問題の特徴が、時代や社会状況の変化とともにどのように変容してきたのかを把握する。
③ 環境問題に起因する健康被害を受けることが、個人および社会にとってどのような意味を持つのかを考察する。

本授業では、環境問題とは何か、またそれが社会の変化とともにどのように変容してきたのかを、さまざまな事例を通じて学ぶ。あわせて、環境問題に起因する健康被害の特徴と、その解決の困難さについて考察する。さらに、環境問題によって健康被害を受けた被害者の経験に着目し、それを環境社会学の観点からどのように理解できるのかを検討する。
In this course, students will learn what environmental problems are and how they have changed over time through various case studies.
