The aim of this course is to consider modern cities, which are changing in the context of globalization, the development of information and communication technology, and the rise of neoliberal politics, from a geographical perspective and using geographical methods.
This lecture will be divided into three parts.
In Part 1, “The Forces that Move the City”, you will learn about the basic urban theories that are essential for understanding the dynamism of modern cities. In Part 2, “The Various Aspects of Modern Cities”, you will focus on five phenomena that symbolize modern cities and explain their mechanisms. In Part 3, “New Issues in Urban Geography”, you will take up relatively new concepts and themes related to cities and envision the future of cities.

グローバル化や情報通信技術の進展，新自由主義政治の台頭などを背景に変わりゆく現代都市について，地理学的な見方や方法論を用いて多角的に考察することを目標とする。
The aim of this course is to consider modern cities, which are changing in the context of globalization, the development of information and communication technology, and the rise of neoliberal politics, from a geographical perspective and using geographical methods.
この講義は3部構成で展開する。
第1部「都市を動かす力」では，現代都市のダイナミズムを理解する上で不可欠となる基礎的な都市理論について学ぶ。第2部「現代都市の諸相」では，現代の都市を象徴する5つの現象に焦点を当て，そのメカニズムを解説する。第3部「都市地理学の新しい論点」では，都市に関する比較的新しい概念やテーマを取り上げ，これからの都市のあり方を構想する。
