【Course Objectives】

This course is an elective capstone course in the Department of Community Development. Under the supervision of faculty members, students identify and explore their own research interests, and compile the outcomes of their research and practical work into either a Seminar Paper or a Graduation Thesis.
The objective of this course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of both theoretical and empirical research on inequalities in childhood through extensive engagement with relevant domestic and international literature. Students will be expected to systematically review the assigned readings, succinctly synthesize their core arguments, accurately identify their underlying purposes, and, when appropriate, critically assess their limitations. In recent years, social issues related to inequalities in childhood—such as educational disparities and child poverty—have attracted growing scholarly and public attention. Nevertheless, the empirical realities and mechanisms underlying these forms of inequality remain insufficiently understood. Accordingly, this course seeks to advance academic, policy-oriented, and societal discussions by examining research on childhood inequalities that emerge within the contexts of the family, school, and local community. Ultimately, students are expected to produce a review paper in the form of a seminar paper or an undergraduate thesis.

【Course Contents】

This course is conducted through assigned readings and structured discussions. For each session, designated students are responsible for preparing presentation materials based on the assigned literature. Using both the readings and the presentation materials, all participants will engage in academic, policy-oriented, and societal discussions.Building on these activities, students are expected to advance the collection and academic review of relevant literature for their individual seminar papers or graduation theses and to complete a paper.
