Students learn the knowledge and techniques necessary to maintain and improve mental health, and apply these so they can acquire actual problem-solving ability.
These issues are considered in a group forum by all the students, using cases and audiovisual materials incorporating definitions and goals of mental health in terms of the life cycle, and a basic knowledge of mental disorders and developmental disorders.

精神保健の課題について、普段の生活者としての視点、すなわち精神保健的課題とは身近にまた自分にも起こりうることであるという視点を踏まえて、将来教員や支援者を目指すものとしての視点に立ち、興味あるトピックを明らかにしながら授業に臨むことが期待される。
講義を受けた後、さらに深掘りしていくために、厚生労働省のHPを検索することや、トピックについて調べることを推奨する。

精神的健康の保持・増進のために、必要とされる知識や技術を学ぶとともに、それらを実際の問題解決に応用できる力を身につけることを目指す。

精神保健の定義と目標、ライフサイクルから見た精神保健、精神障害の基礎知識、神経発達症（発達障害）の基礎知識などについて、事例や視聴覚教材を活用し、受講者とともに考えていく。
