The goal of this course is to examine the ethnic sports played around the world today from various cultural aspects such as tradition, religion, customs, creation, and spread, in order to grasp the true significance of ethnic sports that differ from modern sports, and to learn the academic system of "sports anthropology."
Sports anthropology is an academic field that examines and studies ethnic sports from all cultural aspects. Unlike modern sports that are played with uniform rules, ethnic sports have been formed within the unique cultures of various ethnic groups, societies, cultures, religions, etc., and are therefore deeply rooted in human life. In addition to competitive sports, there are also non-competitive sports such as games, festivals, and dances.
This course uses various ethnic sports as examples to clarify the sports culture that humanity has built. The course is mainly conducted in the classroom, but video materials will also be used to deepen understanding.

この科目では、今日世界各地で行われる諸エスニック・スポーツについて、伝統・宗教・風習・創造・伝播などの様ざな文化の側面から考察を行うことで、近代的スポーツとは異なるエスニック・スポーツの本来の意義を把握し、「スポーツ人類学」の学問的体系を学習することを目標とする。

スポーツ人類学は、エスニック・スポーツを研究対象として、それをあらゆる文化的側面から考察・研究する学問である。統一されたルールのもとで行われる近代的スポーツとは違い、エスニック・スポーツは様々な民族や社会、文化、宗教などとする土着文化の中で形成されてきたものとして、より人間の生活と根深いものである。その種類も競争的競技のみならず、遊びや祭り、舞踊などの非競争的なものもある。
本科目では様々なエスニック・スポーツを事例として、人間が築き上げたスポーツ文化を明らかにする。基本座学であるが、映像資料も用いて理解を高める。
Sports anthropology is an academic field that examines and studies ethnic sports from all cultural aspects. Unlike modern sports that are played with uniform rules, ethnic sports have been formed within the unique cultures of various ethnic groups, societies, cultures, religions, etc., and are therefore deeply rooted in human life.
