Reconstruction of the Concept of "Sport": Students will go beyond the framework of modern sports based on standardized rules to develop a profound understanding of the intrinsic significance of physical cultures—such as festival nature (festivity), ritual significance, and survival strategies—that have evolved uniquely within diverse ethnic and local communities.
Acquisition of an Anthropological Perspective on Sport: Students will acquire the academic insight to perceive physical movement not merely as an "independent competitive event," but as a "cultural phenomenon" that interacts with other cultural elements, including religious beliefs, social structures, and historical backgrounds.
Cultivation of Cross-Cultural Understanding and Multidimensional Analytical Skills: By analyzing how ethnic sports are transformed and inherited in contemporary society, students will recognize the importance of cultural diversity in a globalized world and develop the ability to discuss these topics from an objective, academic standpoint.
SportAnthropology is an academic discipline that focuses on "ethnic sports" as its primary subject of research, examining them through a wide range of cultural perspectives.
Unlike modern sports, which are played under standardized global rules, ethnic sports have been shaped within the "indigenous cultures" of various ethnic groups, societies, and religions. Consequently, they are more deeply rooted in the fundamental aspects of human life. The scope of these activities extends beyond competitive matches to include non-competitive forms such as traditional play, festivals, and ritual dances.
In this course, we will explore the diverse sports cultures created by humanity through various case studies of ethnic sports. While the course primarily consists of classroom lectures, visual materials and documentaries will be extensively used to enhance students' understanding of the dynamic relationship between physical activity and cultural identity.

「スポーツ」概念の再構築： 画一的なルールに基づく近代スポーツの枠組みを超え、各民族や地域社会の中で独自に発展してきた身体文化の本来的な意義（祝祭性、儀礼性、生存戦略など）を深く理解する。
スポーツ人類学の視座の獲得： 身体運動を「独立した競技」としてではなく、他の文化要素（信仰、社会構造、歴史的背景）と相互に関係し合う「文化現象」として捉える学問的知見を習得する。
異文化理解と多角的な分析力の養成： エスニック・スポーツが現代社会においてどのように変容・継承されているかを分析することで、グローバル化社会における文化的多様性の重要性を認識し、客観的に論じる力を養う。

本講義では、世界各地の多様な民族や地域社会に根ざした「エスニック・スポーツ（民族スポーツ）」を研究対象とし、その文化的・社会的意義を多角的な側面から考察します。
現代のスポーツの多くは、西洋で体系化された統一ルールに基づく「近代スポーツ」ですが、エスニック・スポーツは、それぞれの土地の宗教、信仰、伝統、あるいは日々の生活習慣といった**「土着文化」**と密接に結びついて発展してきました。そのため、その形態は勝ち負けを競う競技にとどまらず、遊び、祭り、舞踊、儀礼といった「非競争的」な営みまで多岐にわたります。
また、具体的な事例（ケーススタディ）を数多く取り上げ、人間が歴史の中で築き上げてきた身体文化の多様性を明らかにします。授業は講義形式を中心に進めますが、世界各地の貴重な映像資料を活用することで、文字や言葉だけでは捉えきれない身体技法や祭礼の熱量を視覚的に理解し、スポーツ人類学的な視座を養います。
SportAnthropology is an academic discipline that focuses on "ethnic sports" as its primary subject of research, examining them through a wide range of cultural perspectives.
