【Course Objectives】

Upon completion of the course students should be able to; 1) utilize summarization skills of scanning / skimming to identify key points from a variety of sport and wellness resources, 2) mind map the key vocabulary making up the multiple dimensions of the wellness model, 3) understand the lifestyle habits in global regions and the economic impact, and 4) communicate sport and wellness economic habit data in table and graphic form.

【Course Contents】

Through weekly readings of primary and secondary publications students will develop an understanding of the elements making up the dimensions of the wellness model. In addition, students identify global trends in the economic sectors for wellness and sport. Through this information, students should be able to identify practical ways to build personal and community wellness through positive changes in lifestyle habits.

1 Review scope and sequence of course.
Introduce the strategies of skimming / scanning of articles to identify headings and key vocabulary.
2 Mind map wellness contents and identify key vocabulary for the six dimension wellness model.

Mind map contents for fitness and introduce benefit and health risk vocabulary from Par-Q and You.
5 Utilize Par-Q and You reading for applying FITT guidelines for training and physical activity.

Complete reading using skimming and scanning strategies, and identify key vocabulary making up the Global Wellness Economy.
8 Mind map wellness economic sectors and identify global trends from data describing regional economic wellness sectors.

From reading, identify consumer purchasing habits in the sport and wellness economic sectors.
10 Present data orally on a economic sector from a region of the students choice. Day 2
Develop a group survey for selected merchandise in the economic sector and begin class survey.
11 Vocabulary Quiz #3 (Wellness Economic Sectors) + Newsletter
Complete class survey and record data in table and graphic form.
12 Compare trends in consumer purchasing habits presented in reading to data acquired from class survey.
