By the end of the course, students should be able to:
1) Understand biopsychosocial models in applied sport and performance psychology,
2) Understand the key constructs and their relationship for performance enhancement,
3) Apply theoretical knowledge to improve their own functioning and performance,
4) Propose intervention strategies to assist other’s functioning and performance, and
5) Evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed intervention strategies.
How can you function and perform well across lifespan? It is significant for everybody to know how to function optimally to produce good performance and high well-being. This course is designed to provide students with fundamental knowledge and skills to promote optimal functioning and performance from a biopsychosocial perspective. The focus of this course is on theory, research and practices in sport and performance psychology. Students will be introduced to psychological theories and approaches that could be used to enhance well-functioning, performance, and personal growth across lifespan (from children to older adults) through sport and exercise participation. The course consists of lectures, tutorial, and practical sessions. After learning the fundamental knowledge of biopsychosocial models and skills, students will be required to apply them through practical individual and group tasks in this course.
